Yesterday I tried stopping by Legacy in Hermosa and they decided not to open up shop. Thanks, you gave me a reason to go to da beeeeeeeeach!

Yassine’s leaving back to France next week so we decided to show him around DTLA this past Sunday. First we went to Olvera Street and ended up eating some great food and getting a bunch of cool stuff. For those of you that don’t know Olvera Street is in the oldest part of Downtown LA, and is part of the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument. It has a bunch of street stands, food spots and is right next to Chinatown and Philippes. Of course Yas got a couple of Lucha Libre masks and we got a blanket and this cool fabric that one of the stores were selling for Dia de los Muertos. I decided to put my Mom’s old sewing machine to use (since I grabbed it from her before she left to the Philippines) and make a pillow case.

I’m hyped, the case turned out so perfect I want to go down there again and get more fabric. If anyone wants one of these pillows let me know and I’ll buy extra material!

For 10 days we have to take care of my brothers 2 dogs while he’s in Hawaii and with Charlie already here this apartment is turning into the UFC octagon.
Titus the walrus…
Gus
and Charlie
Hopefully a daily bike ride and a lot of beers will keep me sane…
This is the first successful stuffed bell pepper I’ve made. The other ones tasted pretty good but before I added cheese and rice which made it oily and thick. This one has homemade stuffing, cheddarwurst and tomatoes. Super easy to make, just gut the pepper, boil in water for about 5 minutes (to make it tender), stuff with whatever filling you want and throw em in the oven for about 15-20 minutes (350 degrees).
p.s.- Charlie loves grilled corn
We drove around for about 20 minutes trying to look for something healthy to eat for dinner and ended up getting Church’s. Such a bad idea health wise but sometimes healthy is boring.
The skin is a meal in itself.
The best biscuits for a fast food joint.
* Try and not eat too much chicken. Even though it has less fat than beef and pork it’s a small animal and a lot of hormones get pumped into em even if it’s organic. Large animals gets pumped with chemicals too but there’s a reason you can eat beef medium rare and rare and chicken always needs to be fully cooked.
Here’s a bunch of random photos I took this weekend. I don’t know why I didn’t take flicks of the bbq or anything else we did but I’ve been slipping. Hopefully this week will be better…
Stuffed bell peppers
Biter
After he left we had no more mayo, bread or cheese. Always welcome back any time though!
Gluttony at 3am
Got this soy jerky at the jap market. Surprisingly good!
And we randomly accumulated all this too…
Went out to Las Vegas for the Magic Trade Show for a couple of days. It’s always good to catch up with the homies and make moves in the industry but let’s face it, everyone is really out there for the parties. Even though I didn’t bring my camera out on those wild all nighters, here’s some pictures I took on the trip.
Mike J! This dude probably has the worst gas known to man, I think he’s on a egg mcmuffin and milk diet.
Isaiah (Hot Air)
Lumberjack/ Lumbo/ Ryan Hager
Clay Guida (UFC) and his chick
Saia Makakaufaki Jr. (L-R-G)
Jonas getting the “Key To The City” of Las Vegas. Big thangs!
Tampon (IM King)
Jazzy Jeff!
When you’re in Vegas you’ll always find great food and one spot that always inspired my cooking is Bahama Breeze. The dishes there are super simple yet fresh and delicious. You can probably make half the stuff on their menu but every time I eat there I always get ideas on dishes I want to try and make at home.
Fire Roasted Jerk Shrimp- in garlic thyme butter with warm cuban bread for dipping. Definitely going to make this…
Crab Claws St. Thomas- Blue crabs in island citrus butter. Probably won’t make this but definitely going to try and make the butter. They infuse it with passion fruit but I’ll try it with mango and use scallops instead of the crab claws. Pow!
After that we headed home and every time we drive I always see this damn sign…
So today we said screw it and stopped.
Best idea ever. Alien Fresh Jerky is the shit!
Make sure you stop by this place next time you decide to go party in Baker, CA for the weekend? Best quality jerky I’ve ever tasted.
It’s kind of hard to tell but on the way home it was 104 degrees and raining. Random.
